Stanley Roy Burns
October 1, 1930 - Sept 18, 2025
On Thursday, Sept 18, 2025 Stanley Burns passed on peacefully surrounded by his family. Stan is predeceased by his dear wife Annie (Dobia) in Sept 2016. Stan will be lovingly remembered by his surviving family. His three children - Gayle Bucher (Bob), Beverley Campbell and Sheldon Burns (Sheryl). Grandchildren - Rachelle Altman (Justin), Josh Campbell (Morgan), Tyler, Joel, Jeremy Burns and Krista Burns Egesa (Carks). Great Grandchildren - Clare and Greer Campbell and Ava and Lily Altman. Stan is also survived by his brother Robert Burns (Deloyce and Lola).
Stan is also predeceased by his brother Bruce Burns (Darlene) and his cousin Fairy Frew (Dolan) as well as members of his beloved Dobia family - Annie's siblings. Frank Dobia (Ardell), Ted Dobia (Mary), Helen Shippelt Vath (Joe), Val Engman (George), Stephanie Hansen (Don) and several nieces and nephews.
Stan was the middle son of Wyc and Margaret Burns and was raised on the Diamond Valley family farm. He and Annie were married by the age of 20, purchased their own land and built a beautiful farm to be very proud of. Stan worked on drilling rigs for many winters to purchase this farm. He loved his farm and was always thankful for Annie's hard work there.
Stan was a natural athlete, pitcher of the Central ball team, but could have played any sport at a very high level if he had been in a different time and place. He was an amazing man in so many ways, strategic and steady, an excellent farmer. He always contributed to community functions surrounding his farm, never shirking responsibilities. He was a friend to so many, a good neighbour and dearly loved as “Uncle Stan”. Everyone was greeted in their kitchen with a coffee and some sweet baking. They loved hosting dinners in their home.
Our Papa was humble, not showy, genuinely very sociable in his quiet manner. He was a fastidious dresser, coached by Annie. Annie and Stan were travellers before travelling was done by farmers and they especially enjoyed their trips to visit Gayle in Tulsa and Houston, Texas as well as throughout Europe with Auntie Helen..
The biggest journey that Stan and his Annie went on was their enduring and steadfast commitment to each other throughout their lives. They truly modelled what it meant to be faithful through the highs and lows. Their love is a legacy that they both passed to their descendants and that Dad especially showed to the men in our family.
Stan loved the Dobia accordian music and dancing, in particular Uncle Frank and his nephew, Greg Engman. He appreciated Bev and Gayle's accordian and piano music, Sheldon and Tyler on the guitar, Josh on the bagpipes, great granddaughter Clare with her championship highland dancing and Greer's singing/theatre. Stan's old-time dancing skill was second to none. We all have such endearing memories of his Irish/Scot ditties, songs that came down from his ancestors and his endless quips that were pure “Stanley".
Most of all Stan was so dearly loved by his family. We will forever treasure what he instilled in us, values of honesty and unending work ethic to the very end.
Stan was truly a gentle giant of a man, in every way. We will always cherish him..
He is so missed..
Funeral services will be held at the Evergreen Hall at 12:00 pm Friday, October 24.
A lunch will be served following the service. All are welcome.

Gayle, Beverley and Sheldon: Gone but never forgotten....I have so many wonderful memories of visits and sleep overs at the Burns family home "up the Diamond Valley Road". In more recent years, I had the good fortune of seeing Mr. Burns at Beverley's home and at his Manor in Eckville during my occasional trips to AB. May you all look back on your precious memories of your Dad and find peace in knowing that he was such an amazing person. I know he will forever remain in my heart and memories. Love to all of you from an old friend.
