Sylvan Lake Funeral Home has been serving the families of Central Alberta from the same location in picturesque Sylvan Lake for more than 80 years.

Over many years, Sylvan Lake Funeral Home has seen several different owners: the Duffields, the Buchanans and the Flinn family since 1985.

Matayah, Funeral Director

At just 27, Matayah is a licensed funeral director for Sylvan Lake Funeral Home. She strongly believes that caring for others is a privilege, and that honouring a life should be as unique as the person we are remembering.

She was born in British Columbia, but brought up in Stettler, Alberta. She has been local to Central Alberta for most of her life and has no plans to leave anytime soon. Outside of work, she finds balance and joy through her strong love of animals, dancing like no one is watching, and through music.

John Flinn, Funeral Attendant

John Flinn assists around the funeral home and cemetery set-ups. He is the son of owners Diane & Gordon. In John’s free time, he loves coaching Pee Wee Football with the Sylvan Lake Bears and going out camping/ hiking in the west country.

Laurie Wade, Celebrant

For those who wishing a non-religious service, we have a trained celebrant, Laurie Wade, on staff to meet this need.

James (Jim) Moran

Jim is a retired RCMP Officer, helps with transfers and as a funeral attendant when needed.
