Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Hugh Walter Lockhart of Red Deer, Alberta on August 27, 2023 at the age of 68 years. Hugh was born in Red Deer, Alberta on December 8, 1954. After graduating with a Bachelor of Physical Education degree from the University of Alberta in 1976, Hugh accepted a teaching position in Barrhead, Alberta. A few years later Hugh left teaching and began a 20+ year career within the golf industry in Alberta and British Columbia, and eventually owned and operated his own landscaping and snow removal company in Red Deer. Hugh was an avid golfer and curler and volunteered countless hours to numerous causes throughout his life.

Hugh leaves to mourn his father Walter Lockhart (June Bevan) of Red Deer, daughter Holly Lockhart (Jon Oko) of Edmonton, niece Colleen Turner and her sons Ethan and Daniel, all of Red Deer, and nephew Christopher Turner of Kelowna, British Columbia, as well as numerous friends and extended relatives. Hugh was predeceased by his mother Lena in 2012 and sister Mavis in 2019.

A celebration of life will be held at the Red Deer Elks Hall, BPOE, No. 85, 6315 Horn Street, Red Deer on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11:00 am. Cremation entrusted to Sylvan Lake Funeral Home & Crematorium. Memorial donations may be made directly to the Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury, Box 1000, Ponoka, Alberta, T4J 1R8 or the Alberta Elks Foundation (www.elksofalberta.ca).

My deepest condolences to Hugh s family…I’m from Barrhead..knew he taught here but met in Red Deer at the golf course .. supper ..visiting at his office..had a really nice time I look back and think time flies so quickly….he always had that GREAT smile..RIP Hugh. Thinking of you Holly, at this sad time. We always enjoyed seeing Hugh at the Laughlin golf tournaments, he was a lot of fun. Also enjoyed meeting and golfing with you, Holly, in Laughlin a couple years ago.

Our sincere condolences to Hugh's family. We met Hugh almost 15 years ago when he landscaped our new home and he has since maintained our landscaping at our home and our business. He also hired both our sons for a summer or two. Always a pleasure to deal with and share golf stories.
