Obituary

Born on March 13, 1972, in Inverness, Scotland, Maree Mackay was the beloved daughter of Jesse and David Mackay, both of whom predeceased her. She grew up alongside her sisters, Donna and Heather, and her brother, David, sharing a close bond that remained throughout her life.
In 1998, Maree moved to Canada with her family, beginning a new chapter filled with adventure, resilience, and connection. On August 20, 1999, she married the love of her life, Desmond (“Des”) Ogilvie, building a life grounded in love and partnership.
Maree lived in Halifax, Winnipeg, and Yellowknife over the years, leaving a lasting impression in every place she called home. She had an incredible Scottish sense of humour and could make anyone laugh. Everyone who met her loved her—she had a way of brightening even the darkest days. Her wild and wonderful stories will continue to be shared among family and friends for years to come.
She was a devoted mother to her children: Iona (Braden Oehlerking, Elaina Oehlerking), Rachel (Yoichi Shimohata), and Ross. She deeply loved music, old horror movies, and especially cherished her role as a grandma.
In September 2022, Maree and Des retired to Sylvan Lake, where they embraced a well-earned new chapter together.
Maree was truly one of a kind. She will be remembered with love by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and she will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.

Condolences

James Jerrard:

I offer my heartfelt condolences to Des and family as they grieve. May she rest in peace.

Jan Doherty:

Maree, I can't believe I am writing this.
I have so many fond memories of you growing up.
You were the youngest of the group, but you were the wisest.
In earlier years when you were still in Forres you would come to my house for a coffee and a good old blether.
Recently it was through facetime on the Facebook.
We would laugh and cry putting the world to rights.
I'm going to miss you so much, especially late at night when I need a good blether.
Until we meet again Maree I will always have a place in my heart for you.
All my Love to Des, Iona, Rachel and Ross.
Jan

Joyce Sutherland:

Maree
One of my best friends since childhood, my bridesmaid and my confidante throughout life. I am heartbroken that I am writing this because you have been taken away far too quickly and that is something I will never get over.
I will always think of you with fond memories, the laughs we shared growing up, the fun we had and the silly things we got up to. Far too many to mention.
I was sad when you left Forres to go to Canada but I now see that was the best decision you ever made. You had a wonderful life with Des and your lovely family. I know you were so proud of them all.

Sleep tight my friend.I will never forget you. You will always be in my heart. Although you were in Canada you are still a Forres quine
Love you always
Joyce. Fred, Lisa and Laura

Lee:

Always loved Aunty Maree, she was one of the most the kindest, funniest and caring person I know. Whenever we knew she was coming back to Forres, it was pure excitement because knew it was going to be a good time, with belly aching laughs like hearing Mum and Aunty Maree argue about misjudgement in jeans sizes in the kitchen.
Miss and love you with all my heart

Melanie Gerodias-Mitchell:

Thinking back to those days living at Laura’s as Mike’s girlfriend brings such a flood of warmth. Life there meant long afternoons in the backyard, filled with wine, easy laughter, and the kind of connection that only feels possible with family.
I can still perfectly hear her voice the distinct lilt of her accent as she told me I was beautiful. She had such an eye for the little things; I remember how much she absolutely loved my pink, flat, firm sandals. That shawl she gifted me remains such a special token of her generosity. You truly couldn’t have asked for better neighbors; they made a house feel like a home.

Kathy Ogilvie :

Sending love to Des and family, my deepest condolences.❤️❤️

I only met your mom one brief time at your baby shower, Iona. But the moment we walked through those doors she was so welcoming and made us feel so comfortable and gave us all a big hug! It was like we had known her for years! For the rest of the time we were there I felt myself drawn to wanting to talk to her more! She was such a fun, enjoyable person to be around.

Laura and Kirk Newhook:

David Mackay :

Dearest Maree.

I will miss you forever, words will not do justice to express what a wonderful person you were. You would light a room and bring laughter to all who encountered you. Looked after me and looked out for me.

A wee poem from Lord Byron for you.

My sister—till I look again on thee."
"In the desert a fountain is springing, / In the wide waste there still is a tree, / And a bird in the solitude singing, / Which speaks to my spirit of thee."
"We are entwin'd—let death come slow or fast, / The tie which bound the first endures the last!"

We will forever be brother and sister.
Love
David

Matthew Kimiksana:

Hi I am saying my condolences to Maree's family and friends. She was a friendly co worker when I worked with her and she went above and beyond to make working with people and customers very kindly. My apologies for her family and friends again. My condolences. I hope this helped.

Ian Cameron:

Still in shock at the suddenness of it all.
Maree was a lovely person. She actually introduced me to Marjory my now wife of 34 years.
RIP Maree, always in our hearts ♥️
