West Meadows Cemetery, Sylvan Lake
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert “Eric” Fairbrother surrounded by his loving family at home in Sylvan Lake, Alberta on Thursday July 16th, 2026, at the age of 86. Eric was born to Edith and George Fairbrother on September 15, 1939, in Saint John, New Brunswick.
He was the beloved father of Wayne (Melanie), Paul (Deanne), and Greg.
Eric was the best grandfather to Joleen, Joel, Sydney, George, and Kai. He also had a special relationship with all his great grandkids Angelina, Dominique, Lily, Jersey, Ryan, Gage, Aaliyah, Kinsley, and Jaxon.
Eric is also survived by his sisters-in-law Hope (Pat), Shirley, Melody, Dy-Anna, and Barb; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and large chosen family.
He was predeceased by the love of his life Carro (Gillett) and their loving son Bobby; his parents George and Edith Fairbrother; and all his siblings.
Eric will be remembered as a kindhearted and hard-working family man. He loved making connections with people over a cup of coffee and never forgot a face or a name.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the palliative nurses and home care who assisted in allowing us to fulfil Eric’s final request to remain at home.
A graveside service will be held at the West Meadow Cemetery in Sylvan Lake, Alberta on August 1st at 2:30 PM with a reception to follow at the Sylvan Lake Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to join both.
Flowers are respectfully declined. If desired a donation may be made, in Eric's memory, to the charity of ones choice.

Some people leave a lasting impression not through grand gestures, but through the kindness, thoughtfulness's and genuine care they show others. That was Eric .
I had the privilege of working with Eric many years ago and for almost 40 years we remained friends. We kept in touch, through visits and phone calls. Eric’s wit, warmth and unwavering friendship enriched my life in countless ways. He had a remarkable gift for making people feel valued. It brings comfort to know Eric is reunited with Carro, the love of his life. To Eric’s family, may you find comfort in the love that surrounds you and strength in the cherished memories you hold.
Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Sorry to hear about Eric. He and I were lifelong friends,he was a very kind person and a great friend. my heart goes out to the family in this time of loss. One of Erics sayings was " what is your story. Everyone has a story...).from my family to yours sincere condolences. Ralph and Anne
Graham Richards:
I was contacted by Eric many years ago regarding our joint connection to British Homes Children. Eric's ancestors were living in adjacent streets to my G Grandfather in the late 1890's in Leamington Spa, England. I managed to obtain some historical images for Eric as I work in Leamington Spa and from this a correspondence friendship grew. Eric was a kind and beautifully spoken person who wore his heart on his sleeve., his Facebook posts were always thought evoking, respectful and philosophical. I am very saddened by Eric's passing but happy in the thought that I helped him in his quest to find information from his past. Rest in peace my friend and rejoice in reuniting with Carrow and other past love ones. Goodnight and God bless you my friend. Graham Richards. United Kingdom.
Marion Crawford:

Lianne:
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Eric was a wonderful person who always greeted everyone with a welcoming smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My thoughts are with your family.
Don Fairbrother:
My Uncle Eric, my father’s last surviving sibling, was always there for the family, be it in his meticulous recording of an extensive family tree, as a shoulder to lean on when someone died, with a homespun philosophical tidbit, or a family story.
He saw his share of tragedy as a teenager, as a parent and as a husband. He overcame all that and became a beacon of change without being self-righteous or sanctimonious.
Eric was, to me, a father-figure and a friend. I loved him dearly—but he knew that.
Peace for you, Eric—tears for us. Nancy and I will miss you and are so please you came out to the farm when we were all younger people in better days.
