Stephanie Shawna Barr
September 28, 1991 - August 7, 2026
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Stephanie Shawna Barr, at just 34 years of age.
Stephanie was so much more than the struggles she faced. She was a cherished daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend who was deeply loved throughout her life.
Stephanie was incredibly smart and had so much potential. She excelled at university, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing, an accomplishment of which she and her family were very proud. She was bright, capable and determined, and there was so much more to Stephanie than the difficult path her life eventually took.
Stephanie was the beloved daughter of Cory and the late Steve Barr, and the older sister of Spencer (Hope). She shared a special bond with her uncle Shawn, who loved her dearly. She was also deeply loved by her grandparents, the late Gail and Butch Bailey and Audrey and Charles Barr. Growing up, Stephanie shared many wonderful times and close relationships with her cousins, creating memories that will always be a treasured part of her story.
Stephanie had beautiful big blue eyes, a wonderful smile and a kind heart. She had a special love for animals, especially the family dogs, and found happiness in swimming, travelling and experiencing new places. Those who knew Stephanie will remember the laughter, the good times and the many moments when her true spirit shone through.
For many years, Stephanie struggled with addiction. It was a battle that affected her life deeply and one that those who loved her desperately wished they could take away from her. Tragically, Stephanie lost her life to an overdose.
We choose to speak openly about Stephanie's struggle because there is no shame in loving someone who struggled with addiction. Addiction was part of Stephanie's life, but it was never who she was.
She was the little girl who was loved beyond measure. She was the bright young woman who went to university and earned her degree. She was a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin and a friend. She was someone who loved animals, swimming and travelling. She was someone with hopes, dreams, talents and people who never stopped loving her.
There are no words that can adequately describe the heartbreak of losing a daughter at only 34. We wish with all our hearts that Stephanie's story could have ended differently and that we could have had more time.
Stephanie, we will remember you, not the addiction that took you from us. We will remember your big blue eyes, your beautiful smile, your intelligence, the little girl you once were and the woman we loved through it all.
You were our daughter before the struggle, through the struggle, and always.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our girl.
