A Celebration of Life for Elaine will be held on Saturday May 2nd at 1:00pm at Spruce View Community Hall with a reception to follow.
Elaine Romelda Bates, age 74, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at the Red Deer Hospice in Red Deer, Alberta.
Elaine was born and raised in Dogpound, Alberta, and carried a deep love for rural life with her throughout her years. An avid “horse girl” from a young age until her passing, horses were not just a pastime for Elaine—they were part of who she was. She found joy and peace in riding, in the open land, and in a life lived close to nature.
Elaine believed strongly in doing what was right, being honest, and keeping your word. These values guided how she lived and how she loved. Family meant everything to her, and she showed that love through her loyalty, her presence, and her steady support.
Elaine was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Patrick Bates. Together, they shared 35 wonderful years and made life side by side look effortless. They truly did everything together—tending to their beautiful vegetable garden at home, going on many hunting and riding trips, and traveling to explore new places. Their partnership was one of deep companionship, shared adventure, and genuine affection.
Elaine is lovingly remembered by her husband, Patrick Bates; her sister, Barb Judd; her brother, Robert Judd; her sons, Casey (Jacquelin) and their daughters Haley and Hannah, and Kirby (Josephine) and their children Alexus, Kirby Jr., Levi, and Jordan; her step-daughters, Angela (Dale) and Nicole (Wayne) and her son Austin; and brothers-in-law’s (and their wives), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by extended family and friends who were fortunate to know her.
Elaine’s love for family, horses, and the land—and her quiet strength and integrity—will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
