Karen Augustynski
January 19, 1966 - March 7, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Karen Augustynski announce her passing at the age of 60 on March 7, 2026, in Sylvan Lake AB.
She was predeceased by her mother Maria Augustynski and her father Kasimir Augustynski.
Karen leaves to mourn her sons Carson Younghusband and Ian (Tiana) Younghusband, as well as her big brother Gerhard (Suzi) Augustynski.
Karen was born in Montreal, QC on January 19, 1966, which was coincidentally her mother's birthday. She was always friendly and kept in touch with friends from elementary and high school to this day. In university she achieved her degree in accounting from Concordia University.
Karen always dreamed of being a wife and mother. While on a trip to Banff to visit friends she met and fell in love with Kevin Younghusband. They got married and eventually settled in their favorite town, Sylvan Lake AB, along the way welcoming her treasured sons Carson and Ian.
Karen also opened her accounting business and became a leader in the Girl Guides in Sylvan Lake.
In 2001 Karen fell ill and needed constant care. Her Father moved to Sylvan Lake from Montreal to care for her for the next 24 years. They were always together and well known throughout the town.
We will remember Karen as our bright light.
Always smiling
Always helping
Always the life of the party
She will shine in our hearts Always!
Agnieszka Krzesimowska:
Spoczywaj w pokoju.
Shirley Nisbet:
I met Karen in grade one at Holy Cross School in Montreal. We were close friends for many years. When she moved to Alberta we kept in touch by phone. She would often call when her boys were young & had the sniffles or a fever to ask me for advice since I was a mom & a nurse. When Karen became ill, we communicated more with letters & cards. Over the years we lost touch, but I often thought of Karen. We had many, many, great times together. Rest in peace dear, Karen.
My deepest condolences to Gerhard & family.
Debbie Bissonnette:
A beautiful tribute and it is with a heavy heart I read it. As kids, we spent lots of time together. She was so strong, so determined, growing up, I truly looked up to her, the leader of our pack. Forever etched in my memory, the trip to Greece we took, the laughter we shared and the friendship we made along the way. My condolences to you all.
Mark Paffrath:
Saddened to hear this news. Although Karen and I kept in touch when she originally moved to Alberta, I had lost her contact information. We have been friends since Grade 1, then in to High school when she was at Villa Maria and I at Loyola. Our family's condolences.
Christine Holland:
I wish to offer my deepest condolences to Karen's family. We went to high school together and I remember her as a bright, intelligent, kind, caring and sincere person. I remember moments of laughter and fun and she and Patty Ann McCann with their heads together whispering about either an exam, a project, or more likely a school dance. I heard that she had fallen ill and often included her in my prayers. I'm so sorry that her bright light has been extinguished but I'm glad that her struggles are over. I will hold you all in my prayers.
Patty McCann:
This is a beautiful write up on Karen, she sure was fun to be with. I am glad I have been a witness to her life and I am very sad the last couple decades were not easy. Rest now my friend. Thinking of you with love.
