Obituary

Morgan Wayne Berdahl
June 17, 1960 – February 13, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Morgan Wayne Berdahl on February 13, 2026, at the age of 65.
Morgan was born on June 17, 1960, weighing an impressive 9 pounds 9 ounces — the largest baby born at Eckville Hospital at that time. From the beginning, he had a big presence to match his big heart. As a child, he earned the nickname “Pogo,” a reflection of his energy and spirited personality. He attended school in Benalto and later in Spruce View, forming friendships that would last throughout his life.
Morgan had a deep love for animals from an early age. As a boy, he rode horses and always shared a special connection with pets, including many beloved cats and dogs over the years. His very best buddy, Bear, was the love of his life and his constant companion. Bear brought him immense joy, and their bond was truly special.
Known for being able to succeed at anything he set his mind to, Morgan had a natural talent for cooking and a gift for bringing people together. He was a fantastic cook who loved entertaining — sharing meals, laughter, and stories with family and friends. Social, outgoing, and always smiling, Morgan had a large circle of friends who appreciated his warmth and generous spirit.
As a young man, Morgan traveled to Nova Scotia and later made his home in British Columbia, living both on Vancouver Island and in the Vancouver area for several years. He built many lasting friendships there while often returning to Alberta to visit friends and family. In time, Morgan moved back to Alberta to be closer to both friends and family, remaining connected to the people and community he cared about most.
Entrepreneurial by nature, Morgan pursued a variety of ventures throughout his life. He worked for several years at Mr. John’s before moving on to manage a number of restaurants, where his leadership and passion for hospitality were evident. Whatever he did, he did well — with dedication, pride, and heart.
Morgan was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Aage Berdahl; his seven brothers, Errol, Gary, Dallas, Darwin, Brent, Randy, and Derrick; his sister, Crystal; and his sisters-in-law, Janet Berdahl and Linda Berdahl.
He will be deeply missed by his very best buddy, Bear; his sisters, Hannah Pohl, Judy (Larry) Smith, and Signe (Eric) Tudor; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his many friends across Alberta and British Columbia.
A private graveside service will be held for family at a later date. True to Morgan’s love of good food and good company, he would have wanted friends and family to come together informally — share a meal, tell stories, and raise a glass in his memory — rather than attend a formal service.
Morgan will be remembered for his infectious smile, his love of animals, his culinary talents, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. His presence filled a room, and his absence will be deeply felt.

Pogo Was Here
Nine pounds nine and ready to roll,
Eckville Hospital barely in control —
“The biggest baby!” the nurses cried,
And Morgan just grinned from the other side.
They called him Pogo — bounce and spark,
Never one to sit in the dark.
If life was moving, he moved it more,
If there was laughter, he led the roar.
He rode horses before he could rest,
Had cats and dogs — he loved them best.
But Bear? Well, Bear was top-tier crew,
His shadow, his sidekick, his loyal “you-know-who.”
If cooking were sport, he’d hold the crown,
Turning plain old meals into talk of the town.
“Come over,” he’d say, “I’ll make enough,”
And somehow it always was more than enough.
From Nova Scotia’s salty breeze
To Island life in BC,
He gathered friends like some collect art —
Just by being Morgan from the start.
Restaurants? Managed.
Ideas? Plenty.
Jobs? A few.
Friends? Too many.
He could try anything — watch him go —
Entrepreneurial? Oh yes, you know.
If there was a plan, he’d tweak it twice,
Add a little spice (probably actual spice).
He moved back home where roots grow strong,
Prairie skies where he belonged.
Still smiling wide, still quick to greet,
Still somehow always finding a treat.
And if heaven has kitchens, we’re fairly sure
He’s reorganized them by now — that’s for sure.
Bear at his heels, tail wagging fast,
Keeping him company, just like the past.
So here’s to Pogo — big start, big grin,
Big heart beating deep within.
If you’re sharing food or telling a tale,
He’s probably laughing — without fail.
