Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Reed Baldwin of Springbrook, Alberta.

Reed was the fifth child of Don and Wilma Baldwin and was born in Calgary where he lived until he moved to the Red Deer area for work. Reed attended Sir Winston Churchill high school and after working for several years at various jobs, he enrolled at SAIT to get his journeyman’s ticket as a Parts Technician. He joined Calgary Peterbilt as a Partsman in 1996 before transferring to Red Deer to become a Truck Consultant selling Peterbilt medium and heavy-duty commercial trucks. He worked for the company for 30 years until his death on August 29th, 2026.


Reed was a fearless kid and rode motorbikes and ATV’s at a young age and that grew into a love of unique cars and trucks that he would “pimp-out” with lift kits, fancy tires and the latest technology gadgets. Reed was an intensely private person but still enjoyed camping, travelling or just hanging out in a friend’s garage having a couple of drinks and tinkering on vehicles. He enjoyed target shooting and outdoorsy trips where his buddies would take the trucks out in the mud. His job was a big part of his life. He was fiercely dedicated to his customers who often became life-long friends. Both friends and clients would pop by his desk every day to have a coffee or to go out for lunch.


Reed is survived by his dad, Don Baldwin, his brothers Donnie Baldwin (Heather), and Wade Baldwin, and sisters Tara MacDonald (Jim), and Cori MacGregor (Shaun) as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Reed was predeceased by his mom, Wilma Baldwin.


We will miss Reed’s crooked smile he shared with our dad. His bright blue eyes like our mom. His short visits and our adventures at Gull Lake. We, who remember his voice, will miss him dearly...and not just in the chapter when we lost him. He was a good son. A beloved brother. He was well-liked and respected by his friends and peers. His absence will be felt, forever.

Reed had been a good friend of our family for many years and whether it was planned holidays, family dinners, or just hanging out at our Pine Lake cabin Reed was always engaged with his quick quips and sarcastic humor. Reed was always smiling and always willing to lend a hand and we are going to miss him.

Scott Hill:

Reed was a great friend. Even if we didn’t talk all the time, whenever we did, we always picked up right where we left off. From partying when we were younger to our trip to Vegas when we were older, the camping trips, those are memories that will always stay with me, the little talks we used to have, and oh boy, the truck talk! We could go on for hours about that together, 37 years is along time to have a friendship.

Reed, you were a good friend, and I’ll always cherish the memories we shared. You will never be forgotten. Rest easy, my friend. Gone but never forgotten. My condolences to the family, and of course your Peterbilt family as well.

Colin Moore :

Wow I can’t believe this . I meet Reed in the 90’s he was quite the guy funny , respectful, and always willing to help anyone if they needed . As time went by we didn’t talk all the time but when we did it was like we talked all the time . Love ya buds RIP my friend I’m sure we will see each other again .

Mike Levin:

Reed was my best friend from the time I was in grade three until just out of high school. We lived across the street from each other in Dalhousie ,Calgary. Everything from riding our bikes over to the arcade in Varsity late into the night as kids, to wrestling on his lawn on the flat and on the slope, to going to Gull Lake and learning how to ride a small motorbike, to having bible studies with his mother Wilma, to snowball fights and snow forts, to trying pot for the first time and laughing so hard our stomachs hurt and really not knowing why we were laughing in the first place, to being in a marching band and travelling throughout the land and dating girls, and long conversations late at night with Joelle( now Rio) and Suzanne, to kissing a girl in our neighborhood who smoked and tasting the ashtray of her mouth, to growing up together and being best friends. We grew apart after high school when I started going to university but I have very good and strong memories of the time in this earth we spent together. Good bye my friend, you are greatly missed.

Don Braun:

I got to know Reed well in high school. He was tremendously fun and fiercely loyal. We drifted a part during the goings on of adulthood, but he was such an important friend for a time. Sending much love to family and friends and gratitude to Reed for the time we shared in friendship.

Jo McKenzie:

I am so sorry to hear of Reed’s passing. I have many special memories with him, slo-pitch and camping, travelling to Europe and The Bahamas. His friendship was special and he will be remembered fondly. Cheers to you, Reed. xoxo

Brendyn Wiigs:

Deepest condolences to family and friends. I have known Reed since grade 4, many adventures and great times spent with him. Moving to White Rock BC for a great summer, walking the beach late nights with our Miller beer. With marriage, kids, and work we drifted apart over the last few years, but, I look back fondly over the many journeys and memories we shared. Rest in peace brother, you were one of the good guys and will
be cherished.

Cory Howes :

I met Reed when he was young and a parts guy at Calgary Peterbilt we remained friends over the years . We took a trip to New York last year and some guys came up to us looking to sell us some music thing and Reed opens his wallet and the guy takes all of his cash and me being the guy I am was not letting these thugs take my friends cash and I went and got it back but it was definitely a scary few minutes for us. He was a good guy and will be missed for sure.

Tammy Bowen:

Reed and I went to school together and hung out during his Sait days. In more recent years, we spoke daily and he spend time with me and my family at Pine Lake during the summers, usually offering a hand with one project or another, and in Calgary for family events in the winters.
We had a few great adventures traveling together
and he was a big part of my life. I will forever miss him. My condolences to the Baldwin family for your loss.

Kurtis and Lindsay Nichols:

Such sad and shocking news to us, Reed was a client of both of ours and always made for a good laugh, either making fun of Kurt for the color of shirt he was wearing if it didn't match, or keeping us on our toes at Eyes + Ears, he would stop by just to say hi if he was passing by the store, he will be missed.

Jasmine :

My heart goes out to Reeds family. My client, daughter and I would see Reed every Wednesday for standing barber appointments. Reed was always so kind and friendly with my client and kiddo. He will truly be missed.

Tiffany Rutherford:

I was Reeds barber, he alway had anyone waiting for their hair cut in some sort of conversation with him whether they were an adult, kid, or dog :)
We will miss the shenanigans we involved him in at the shop, as there were many and he was always such a good sport. Our shop dog will also miss him as they had an amazing bond every time he came in. We will miss him dearly.

The Willmer Family:

Our deepest condolences to the family.
Reed was an amazing neighbour to us. Always came over to have a little chat and to lend a hand when he could. With no questions, he always was the first out when the snow fell to help clear everyone’s driveways with his 4-wheeler.
We will sure miss him!

This is very sad news to me. I have known Reed since 1996 when he called on us for Parts out in the Drumheller area and then when he moved to Red Deer, we bought trucks from him. I will miss him dearly. He was a good friend of mine. Parts runs at Peterbilt Red Deer will never be the same. My condolences to the family, Rest easy old friend.

Quentin Dyrland:

I bought 2 of my peterbilts from Reed, instant friendship when you met him, always had time for a bs in the shop when my wife or myself would stop in for parts. Never too busy to have a chat on the phone or answer any query's you might have. Gonna miss him. Peterbilt parts stops will never be the same.
