Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Gerald L. Davis, lovingly known as Jed, on October 11, 2025, in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, at the age of 66.
Jed will be greatly missed by his wife of 46 years, Colleen (nee Litz), his son Jerad (Sara), grandson Huxley from Calgary, AB and his daughter Jennell (Curtis) McCulloch and granddaughters Elora and Indra from Sylvan Lake, AB.
Jed was predeceased by his parents Robert and Edith Davis (Crowter, Richels), his stepfather Alois Richels, his brother James and his in-laws Franklin and Nell Litz (Samoleski) and brother-in-law Chester Litz.
Jed was born in Grand Centre/Cold Lake, AB and was the fifth child. His siblings are Judi (Larry) Hassen, Linda (Greg) Burkett, Wayne (Carol) Davis, Kathy (Ken) Gray and Kristin (Blair) Quiring. And many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Also missed by his Litz family, Sister-in-law Sandi Litz, Sister-in-law Susan and niece Kimberly (Matt) Klassen and their daughters and nephew Chad.
Jed grew up in many different places throughout Sask, Alberta and BC. One of his favourite places was Merritt BC. He loved riding his bike in the mountains with his buddies and fishing in Salmon Arm. He moved over 30 times in his lifetime. He believed that helped him to learn how to get along with people and that helped his career days. People loved Jed. He had such a great sense of humour and always had great stories and jokes to get everyone laughing.
Jed went to high school in Melfort, SK then moved to Saskatoon where he did different jobs, then attended SIAST to achieve his Journeyman Carpentry status. He worked at Meewasin Valley Authority as a supervisor and helped with many of the beautiful rock work and brick work along the river in Saskatoon. After moving to Alberta, he took a position at Firemaster Oil Field Services, and in the last few years was proud to be working at his son’s company called Total Group of Companies as Health and Safety Officer.
Jed loved nature. He enjoyed muzzle loading, fishing, hunting and his biggest hobby was renovating the homes he and Colleen bought. The most recent being their acreage in Saskatchewan. Jed was quite creative, especially in woodwork and rock work. He was an incredible handyman and there didn’t seem to be anything that man couldn’t do – it was one of his amazing traits.
Jed was the most wonderful, supportive, fun Dad. He coached several of Jerad and Jennell’s teams and rarely missed a game. He loved spending time outdoors with his family, especially on camping trips, and his easygoing nature made him fun to be around.
There was nothing Jed cherished more than spending time with his beautiful grandchildren and bringing smiles to their faces. He had a special gift for entertaining children and was always willing to go the extra mile to make them laugh. Jed’s imagination and creativity made every moment with him unforgettable, and his grandkids adored him for it. He loved Huxley, Elora, and Indra deeply and wholeheartedly.

I’m very sad to hear of Jed’s passing. I was lucky enough to work with him on a few projects and hear stories of his family and especially stories of his grandchildren. He had a kind spirit that wanted everyone to succeed and mentored many of us newbies in the safety field. He would listen and give the best advice, even if sometimes it was hard to hear, he would be honest and do it with the best intention to help us be better. Thank you for sharing him over the years with his work family. He will be missed at every project he should be at. I’m sorry you have to endure such a terrible loss.
