Obituary

ABBOTTS, Harold James

With heavy hearts, the family of Harold James Abbotts announce his passing on July 26, 2025 in Sylvan Lake, Alberta at 76 years old.

Harold was born in Thornbury on July 12, 1949, he was the son of the late Harold and E. Louise (nee Chrysler) Abbotts.

Harold will forever be lovingly remembered by his two daughters Melissa and Kristen (Mike); grandchildren Lincon, Tatum, Nixon, and Farrah; his former wife of 54 years Beth Abbotts; brother Bill Abbotts (Sue); and sister Jill Reekie (Harvie); and nieces and nephews Joe, Jennifer, Caroline, Billie-Jo, Melanie, and John.

Raised in Thornbury, Harold went on to earn his Chartered Management Accountant degree from McMaster University. Over his 40+ year career at Blue Mountain Resorts, he held various positions that would lead him to become the Vice President of Finance. Harold was also President and involved with the Ontario Ski Resort Association for many years.

When he wasn’t working with numbers, Harold was a jack of all trades and enjoyed building and fixing about anything. In his spare time, he enjoyed many hobbies that included skiing, camping, baseball, squash, running, windsurfing, and golfing. Particularly, his motorcycle adventures with his gang “The Wild Hogs” were always cherished.

Harold was a man of few words and showed his love and affection through his actions. When you needed help, Harold was the one you knew to call. Harold will be dearly missed.

Please join us for a toast in celebration of the life of Harold Abbotts on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 3:00pm- 5:00pm at the Collingwood Ski Club located at 796466 Grey County Road 19, The Blue Mountains, ON.
