Obituary

Judy Marlene English

Judy Marlene was born on October 4, 1958, to Harry and Ada Brooks of Leslieville, AB. She was #6 in a series of 7 siblings. She was born with a mop of black hair, big black eyes, and a smile on her face. When Judy was born, Dad joked that she looked like all the other babies in the Rocky Mountain House Hospital. She was always very happy and a lot of fun to be with. At the age of 6, Judy developed a serious illness, acute nephritis, and was not expected to live. Many prayers were offered on her behalf and God healed her. In the hospital, she was known as the “little miracle girl”.

She attended Leslieville Elementary School and graduated from David Thompson High School. Following high school, she attended Berean Bible College in Calgary, AB. Judy accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and rededicated her life to Him in 1999. She was baptized a few years later.

When Judy married Rod English on October 27,1984, as a wedding gift, he gave her something special - a lifelong career. Along with the marriage came a business and a job. It was the gift that kept on giving: long hours, headaches, and a reason for a good fight. Rod was the visionary, the dreamer, and was known as a successful businessman but he would not have made it as far without his #1 assistant. Judy was the muscle, the driving force of the business. She was the little pitbull that kept the dozen male employees and Rod in line, and made sure detailed records of every transaction, every repair, every valve, was kept in perfect order. She was also the bookkeeper for the company, and her bookkeeping was as meticulous as everything else. At one point, she kept the Royal Bank looking for an error for a whole week. The error? A missing nickel! Even as she lay in the hospital, in excruciating pain, her concern was for her books, the deposits being made, and the bills being paid, ON TIME! There was NO such thing as late fees in Judy’s world. Yes, Rod had to take her iPad into the hospital for her to stay on top of it all.

Her OCD extended beyond her books, to her house and her yard. Rod might starve, but her kitchen was spotless. Her yard was the same. Not a blade of grass out of place and the fairy rings were picked clean, even if she had to supervise a sister doing it for her. No one could cut the grass good enough for Judy.

But, her real pride and joy, her reason for living, for working hard, the motive for everything she did, was her son, Jeremy. He was her world. And yes, she s-mothered him! Outwardly, it seemed to drive him crazy but, deep down, I know he loved it. He and his mom were very close.

Besides Rod and Jeremy, Judy loved her family, her parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews, and her friends. She was always ready to help wherever needed. She kept in touch with everyone. She felt everyone’s pain and rejoiced in everyone’s joys. She was very generous and most of her donations were given anonymously.

Judy is lovingly remembered by her husband Rod, son Jeremy Brooks, sisters Esther (Dave) Thomas, Leanne (Lyell) Smith, Elaine Bamber, Carol (Roger) Laing, Colleen (Terry McCaffrey), Mother-in-law Gayle, Sister-in-law Diane (Brad) Forsythe, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Ada Brooks, brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Juliann Brooks, brother-in-law Warren Bamber, father-in-law Ralph English, and brother-in-law Dale English.

She is now at home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Bethel Union Church, Leslieville, AB or to the Rimbey Hospital, Rimbey, AB.

Alanna Dextrase:

My condolences Rod. I was first introduced to you and Judy when I was employed at CIBC and remember going on a pub crawl with Judy and Peggy and an event at the old curling rink. I remember Judy’s smile and strong personality.

Laurie Archibald:

My condolences Rod. I hope your memories provide peace during this difficult time.

Julia and Glen English:

Our condolences to Rod and Jeremy. I have memories of Judy when I worked for her at Central Valve when they owned that business. Judy was certainly the women that ran that business. Kept the men in line and was the kindest person to them all. She was honest, kind , hard working . This lady will be missed by her family. Our deepest sympathies.

Fred and Sharon Blair:

Rod and Jeremy, I am so sorry for your loss. I first met Judy through Kinettes in Sylvan Lake. I am so glad that I met you and Judy at the hospital in Red Deer in November, and am so glad we had a talk and laughs about some of our fun times in the club! I will remember that smiling fun loving face and I am sure you each have special memories that will keep her ever close to you!sending sympathy and hugs to you both!

Bob Mettlewsky:

So very sorry for your loss Rod. Sincere condolences and may the blessings of her saviour be with you and your family. I will never forget the story of the boat ride you took her through. It’s ok Judy, as you also took us through one.

Bev Barker Gunderson:

My deepest condolences to you Rod. I always enjoyed a visit with Judy. She was such a little pistol. A fond memory I have is when Judy modelled for the Cobbs Fashion Show and you made sure she took home the snappy little leather coat she modelled. She was so thrilled with you doing that. Hold those memories tight Rod. She will be missed.
