Obituary

Janet “Joey” Wilkison
August 25, 1947 – December 19, 2025

Janet “Joey” Wilkison passed away on December 19, 2025, at the Red Deer Hospice after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Joey was born on August 25, 1947, to Audrey and Jim Wilkison. She was predeceased by Joyce Roche who was the “Mother of her heart.”
Joey is survived by her partner, Joanne Leduc and family, Earl, Kirk and Suzanne. Her brothers; Jim (Liz), and Terry (Debbie). Her sisters; Susan, Daphne (Gord), and Debbie. Her nieces and nephews; Tara (Jason), Caleb (Amanda), Jared (Martina), Shalanne (Colin), Nicole (Robert), Shannon, Jennifer, Justin (Amy), Geoff (Courtney), Jesse (Mykaila), Allison, Laura (Nathan), and Megan (Daemon). And her grandchildren; Naomi (Jeremy) and family, Danielle and family, and Cassandra.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Jack, Reg, and Geoff, Her sister, Jeannie, and her nephew Shawn.

Kenny Aamundsen was a major part of Joey’s life. It could be said that he was her partner in crime.
Joey was educated in Kelowna. She had many careers in her lifetime. She worked in the oil field as a shipper/receiver and was also an experienced brick layer. Joey was also a founding member of Club Seventy.
So many things could be said about Joey. She was kind, humorous, and always willing to help.
She was especially fond of animals. She often volunteered to care for the neighbors’ pets while the owners worked or went on holidays.
How lucky we are to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alberta SPCA or the Canadian Cancer Society.
A celebration of Joey’s life will be held at a later date in the spring/summer.

Condolences

Tracey Anderson:

Dear Joey,
When I think of you I get the biggest smile on my face. You were so kind, thoughtful, caring, funny, hardworking and PATIENT just to name a few of your fabulous traits. I remember our bbqs and enjoying the new deck and gazebo after you meticulously mowed the lawn. Any memory I have with you and Kenny crack me up. One summer you put up the gazebo, Kenny was no feeling your “Liberace” inspired decorations. Oh the patience you had with Kenny. Remember Kenny when you came home drunk and fell down the stairs to your room and Joey woke up to pull your ass out of the wall. OMG! There are too many Fond memories to count. Your kindness was truly inspiring and knowing you made me a better person. God Bless you Joey. Fly with the angels
Love Tracey

My heart breaks to hear of her passing. She had a way of treating you like family. Like you were the most precious thing and the only one in the room even if it was filled with people. Ill miss our conversations deeply.
