Susan Campbell:

My heart breaks for the Myburgh family. I send my heart felt prayers and thoughts. He had been my doctor for 14 years and I will miss him dearly. I always looked forward To his warmth, caring and quiet humour. We shared little glimmers of our lives during our medical sessions and I so trusted him for his medical wisdom. He made me feel very safe. Pretty special Doctor and human being. You will be missed and my heart breaks for your family. The world has lost a good man way too soon. Rest in peace

My greatest sympathies to the Myburgh family.

I will so miss our chats about his Mom, his life in Southern Africa, the shoes he had made in Namibia!

A lovely, caring doctor who always took interest and time.

Lenore Berkeley :

Dr. Myburgh has been my doctor for twenty years. I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn of his sudden passing. He was a wonderful, compassionate man who listened and cared about all of my aches and pains and calmly, professionally helped me over the years. I trusted his opinions and decisions regarding my health.
I saw him last on July 7th. We talked and laughed about both of us getting new puppies. We had recently acquired, Tucker and he was all smiles chatting about his new family member, Charlie. He quickly pulled out his phone to show me pictures ... all in spite of his gown, mask, shield, and gloves.
I was expecting to see him again for the follow-up next week. When I called today to book the appointment, I was informed of his passing. I am still in shock from this news.
I loved my relationship with my doctor... open, honest, collaborative health care. He will be missed in the office and in my heart. Such a good and kind man. Thank you, Dr. Myburgh and bless you. My deepest condolences to his wife and children.

Olu and Tolu Taiwo:

Praying for God’s comfort and strength. Joe will be greatly missed.

Jeff & Lorna Gibson, Gary & Jan Gibson:

Condolences from me and my family to the Myburgh family.

I have been too sad to write until now. Just as the many previous messages reflect, along with staff at the clinic, Dr Myburgh also spent extra time with me and my family getting us through some tough times especially lately with aging parents. Often diagnoses and cures were matters of the heart, not physical, Dr Joe knew the importance of that and I would always feel better after a visit with him - my spirit lifted.

What can I say, he always listened, he always cared, he saved my life. I will miss my doctor and friend of some 15 years greatly, but I will never forget his words of encouragement. Words like; life is always changing but that that is ok, try not to worry too much just enjoy life, don't be nervous to come see your doctor, and that marriage is a good thing (he was right). God bless the family, may the memories ease your pain in the days ahead.

Mary C Peters :

I worked with Dr Myburg for many yrs on L&D unit and he was always such a kind gentle man with a relaxed manner and an easy smile. I was so shocked to hear the sad news . May all your treasured memories help you during this very difficult time.

Our condolences go out to Dr. Myburgh's family and staff during this difficult time. He was my doctor since he came to Sylvan Lake. Our hearts are broken. I cannot say enough about this kind, caring, empathetic, compassionate man whose bedside manner and kindness were beyond words. He was the kind of doctor that would go above and beyond and always had time to listen to his patients with understanding and support in every aspect of your visit to his office. Dr. Myburgh had touched so many lives and always had a smile and a kind word or even a laugh or two. He always knew how to give some peace of mind and help you to feel positive when you needed it most. I feel privileged to have had this doctor be a part of my family's life for the past 20 years. Rest in Peace, Joe Myburgh, you will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. Thank You for being there for the many people whose lives you touched!!

Jack Smalley & Candy Orr:

My wife and I would like to add our condolences to the long list of patients and friends paying tribute.

Besides being a great doctor, he also showed very much, a remarkable ability to disassemble the barriers that exist between an anxious patient waiting for examination and the examiner.

Besides a warm and friendly manner, there was humanity evident in his care.
Often there were little anecdotes we shared about life and family. I was greatly surprised when he once said that, at one point in his life, he had a great desire to study architecture. I would have loved to have seen the buildings he created.

On another occasion we discussed Alberta winters. At that time it was a bitterly cold day. I asked him how he tolerated this climate. He exclaimed about the marvels of central heating. At the home where he grew up, in South Africa, the house was very open, with a fireplace as the only source of heat. Even with warm days, the evenings got quite chilly. When one retired to another room that chill was much more uncomfortable than the even heat of an average Alberta house.

We discussed our children. Where they were in life, expectation and decisions.

All of this while in the examining room!

I had never met a doctor such as this. Truly, it was a privilege.

Our deepest condolences,
Jack Smalley & Candy Orr

I was so saddened and shocked by the news of Joe’s passing, Susan. My hope is that you, Anro, and Anelle will have all the support that you need for these next few days and that eventually, your memories of this wonderful man that you married will bring smiles and laughter back to your heart. I will miss him as a friend and a doctor that gave so much to our community. Thank you for all that you did to support him in his career and to share him as you did with us - his most grateful of patients. The mighty storm that raged Wednesday night was a tempest of emotions shared by all of us who knew and loved him.
