Obituary

Esther Lazzari

Esther Lazzari (Genert) passed away on Sunday, September 1 at the age of 98 years, 5 days away from her 99th birthday. Esther was born September 6, 1925 at the family farm south of Walsh, Alberta. She attended school at the one room McKay Creek school along with her other 12 siblings. After grade 9 she attended high school in Medicine Hat and after graduation, taught school in the country. In 1945 she met this handsome blond sailor at a dance hall and a year later, were married.

Her life with her husband of 73 years was one of perseverance and adventure which included moving to numerous towns in Alberta before settling down in Redcliff where she raised her five children James (Carol) John (Wanda), Jacqueline (Dwain), Joe (Marilyn), and Jason (Marlene).

Besides being the consummate mother in raising her children, she did a stint working at the Dominion Glass factory in Redcliff and later, ran her own business as a seamstress doing custom alterations for the Eatons Department store in Medicine Hat. When the first four children left the nest. Len and Esther eventually took up farming in the Lousana area where the last of their sons completed his schooling. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved life to the end. When her Genert character shone through she loved to tease but also was not hesitant on displaying her likes and dislikes with a positive twist. Her attitude was ‘Life is what you make it’ and ‘If you are here, you might as well enjoy it.’ Her words of wisdom will be missed by all who had interactions with her.

Her legacy includes five children, 12 grandchildren, and a plethora of great grand children and great great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Sylvan Lake on Monday, September 9, 2024, at 1:00 pm.

Rest in peace mom, and enjoy your new wings.
