Allan Philip Poloway (March 16, 1960 - July 1, 2024)
Allan Philip Poloway, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on July 1, 2024, after a brief illness. He is survived by his mother, Mary, brothers Dale and Ken, sisters Susan (Shahram), Diane, and Janice (Jeff), sister-in-law, Valerie, and his nieces Roya, Shayda, Aleah, Laurel, Zareena, Kaitlyn, Shayla and nephews John and Joe. Allan was pre-deceased by his father John (2010) and brother Glenn (2020).
Born in Drayton Valley, Alberta, he was the fourth child and third son to John and Mary. A full house growing up, Allan carved out his interests early – football, hockey, games, and being outdoors; interests that continued throughout his life. He had a quick wit, he was funny, and had a great smile. He had something about him that was hard to describe - an intuitive sense that added to his uniqueness.
Allan’s work in the oil industry took him throughout Alberta and southern Saskatchewan, from Fort McMurray to the town of Estevan and back to central Alberta. His experience in the patch, his experience in different parts of Canada added to Allan’s resume of not just work but of people he worked with and became friends with.
If you knew Allan, you knew he loved Rush and Gordon Lightfoot. You knew he loved doing things like fishing and being on the water. You knew he loved the Oilers. You knew he loved playing crib. And you knew he loved doing crossword puzzles.
And when you met Allan, you wanted to be his friend. His best friend. His easy-going nature, go with the flow attitude, that was Allan. He connected, was generous with his time, and loved a deep conversation about life. Allan was available to have a beer watching an Oilers game or a game of crib or simply be available.
When he moved to Sylvan Lake in 2011, Allan found “home” for himself. People he met became friends who became family to him. Spending time at the Fireside Lounge, playing pool in the Sylvan Lake pool league, having fun on the lake, Allan formed deep meaningful friendships and bonds. He loved and was loved in return.
Be at peace Allan. We love you.
A celebration of life for Allan will be held in Sylvan Lake on Saturday, September 7th, 2024 from 1pm - 9 pm at the Fireside Lounge in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Invite only (or reach out to the family).

Storytime in the land above as Allan is again with his Dad John and Brother Glenn -- yes the 3 of them are also probably looking to make a little trouble as well. Rick Atchison and Kim Atchison :
We met Al when he first moved to Sylvan at the Fireside of course. We spent many evenings out and about in Sylvan. Had a lot of good laughs. There was a pretty close nit family that hung out at the Fireside. Al was always happy. I would come home for days off after being gone for a month and Kim and I would go to the fireside and of course Al was there. We would party until 3AM usually at Hazard county and Al would have to go to work the next day. He would always give Kim a birthday card and some lotto tickets. We’ve had Al over several times for bbq or birthday party’s. We just moved to the US in March and had a small going away thing and of course Kim and I wanted Al to be there. He did show up and didn’t seem himself. Wasn’t drinking and noticed he lost a lot of weight. It’s not until after we moved we found out he was ill. It broke Kim and I’s hearts as he was always special to us. Over the next couple of months he was in our thoughts and prayers everyday. Then I got a call from Kim saying that he has passed. It was a very sad day. He will be missed by a lot of people. Love you Al
