In Memory Of

"Rick" Reginald Duane Kay

Jan 23, 1953 - Oct 31, 2021

There will be no service at this time.

There is another eagle soaring in the skies. Rick has received his wings and taken flight after a courageous battle with polycystic disease and related complications on October 31, 2021, in Red Deer, Alberta. He was 68 years of age.
Rick was born and raised in Sackville, New Brunswick to Ila Jean (Hicks) and Henry Kay. He lost both parents by the age of 6 and was cared for by his grandmother, Lois Hicks. After high school, Rick attended trades college in Bathurst, earning his apprenticeship in Sheet Metal and later a journeyman status in Aircraft Sheet Metal from SAIT in Calgary. He worked in construction, aviation, and as a business owner until his declining health forced him into an early retirement in 2015.
Starting in 1975, Rick relentlessly courted Cheri Rogers of Middle Sackville and finally married the lovely and humble girl in 1982. Cheri shared him with many loves: hunting and fishing, the outdoors, hockey, lobster, Harley-Davidsons and, most of all, his family and friends. He was always a Habs fan and had he not been cremated, he would have wanted his casket to be carried by 6 Montreal Canadiens so they could let him down one last time.
Rick leaves to carry on: a son Darnell, his wife, Alisha (Walker), grandchildren: Rett and Ellie; a daughter Hayley, her husband Nathan Oszli and grandson Atreyu; a daughter Denise LeBlanc and granddaughter Gloria; brother Darrell and sisters Nancy (Don Snow) and Patt Wilson; sister-in-law Donna and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandmother Lois Hicks, parents Ila Jean and Henry Kay, brother Ronald, sister Margaret and mother of his daughter Denise, Gloria LeBlanc.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Kym Jim and the nephrology team in Red Deer, Dr. Stephen Fugler in Sylvan Lake, Unit 31 at the Red Deer Hospital, and the caring, compassionate staff at the Red Deer Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Red Deer Hospice Society would be gratefully appreciated at
Cremation entrusted to Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
Condolences may be forwarded to
Sylvan Lake and Rocky Funeral Homes, Your Golden Rule Funeral Homes, entrusted with the arrangements. 403-887-2151.

Where do the years go,.. ? We all can smile and laugh at the memories of our younger years while in our hometown of Sackville. There… parked under the town clock would be Cheri and Rick, every Friday and Saturday night, waiting for the weekends first outdoor party to start. Or, in the spur of a moment, decisions are made to head for PEI, maybe Oyster Bed Bridge.
These days were the greatest of all our youth, no doubt, but now our friend Rick has been called to another journey on his own. Where the Harley’s seat has already had the padding removed, getting lower to the pavement in those winding roads.
You will always be remembered Rick, for your sense of humour and fun presence.
My heartfelt condolences to Cheri and all of your family. Until we can all meet again, farewell my friend. RIP

What an adventurous life Ricky led with Cheri by his side. The Canadians will be losing a very staunch follower and hopefully he will instill some coaching ideas from his new heavenly home. My cousin Ricky and his family were our neighbors - he always was around when we were kids - yes I have stories- as we got older I used to tease him about his height - I would get in trouble with my Dad - Ricky and him were the same height - didn't see Ricky much later in life but when I did he always brought a smile to my face
Thanks Ricky
