Obituary

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and friend, Peter Leonard Mielke on Friday May 3rd.

Peter is survived by his three children Devin (Heather), Darcie (Keith) and Jill (Cameron) and his six grandchildren Emilie, Jackson, Kallie, Ben, Dylan and Jacob. Peter is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Treena Emily Mielke.

Peter was born the youngest of three in Provost Alberta to Clarence and Edith Mielke, March 1st 1948. He was raised in Provost and graduated high school in Red Deer Alberta where shortly after he met the love of his life, Treena Emily whom he married in 1969.

The couple eventually settled in Eckville, Alberta where they raised their three children and amassed countless friends. Peter was the manager of the Eckville Credit Union and served as a town councillor during his time there. He would remain on different local councils throughout his life. There were very few weekends (and even a lot of weekdays) that their home was not the meeting place for a game of cards, watching sporting events, or a drink around the kitchen table.

Peter started his own accounting practice which he kept right up until the time of his passing. In 1996 the couple moved to Sylvan Lake where they enjoyed all the pleasures of lake life.

Even though Peter was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, he still kept a positive attitude towards life and organized poker games, hockey drafts and whatever else he could to help bring joy and companionship to the people around him.

Peter's gentle, kind and generous nature was evident to everyone who knew him. He was witty and intelligent and enjoyed conversations from everything from world politics to local sports teams. By far, his most loved topic was his grandchildren and he could often be found on the sidelines of the ball fields and hockey rinks to cheer them on.

Peter was an inspiring example of how to find the good in the face of adversity and he will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

The funeral service will be held on Monday June 10th at 11:00 am. at St. Leonard's Church in Red Deer, Alberta .

Donations can be made to The MS Society.

Condolences may be left for the family below.

Condolences

Wendy Thurston:

Sincere sympathy on of the loss of Peter. I met Peter through his work with The Friends of Sylvan Lake Library. Although I only knew Peter for a very short time, I was inspired by his dedication to his work with the library which I understand was consistent for many years. He was a man with a beautiful smile, and time for all. May he rest in peace and may you all take comfort in knowing that he made the world a better place.

Skyler and Terry Hughes:

Our deepest sympathies to Peter’s family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our Credit Union years, Kinsmen Club, and Treena’s childcare united us very closely for a lot of years. Many antics and many good times!

Tammie Warden:

So sad to hear of Uncle Peter's passing. Always good fun generous at heart very kind.

Tracey Elliott:

My deepest sympathy on your loss. I worked with Peter for several years at AFSC. He was a great person to work with and had an amazing sense of humor. He was a very upbeat person. The world will be a lot dimmer without him in it
