Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Tuesday July 9, 2024 at the Red Deer Hospice.

Eldora Theresa Isley was the 6th child born to Alfred and Eda Isley in Perth, Ontario on March 18, 1928. When she was 1 year old the family moved to Saskatchewan for a farming opportunity provided by the government. She was raised on the farm which provided her with the core characteristics of her person. Hard work, dedication and a strong faith that carried her through her 96 years on this earth.

Being a caring and considerate person, she entered the nursing profession and graduated as a registered nurse from Saint Pauls Nursing School in Saskatoon in 1950. Her career took her to several locations in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta. One of her job positions led her to Lloydminister where she met her husband Roman Kowal, and they were married on January 19th, 1957. They had 63 years of a dedicated marriage until his passing on July 27, 2020.

Eldora was also predeceased by her parents, 12 Isley siblings, and most sadly her beloved son James Kevin Kowal in 2016.

This woman leaves a true legacy with 4 living children: Ray (Rea) Kowal in Calgary, Art (Shelley) Kowal in Calgary, Karen (Ed) Cargill in Sylvan Lake, and Linda Thiel (Dwain) in Drayton Valley.
She was a grandmother to 10 grandchildren and great grandmother to 20 great grandchildren. Her dedication and time with her family was always a priority.

After the passing of her husband, our mom moved out of her home in Rocky Mountain House to the Hamlets in Red Deer Independent Living. Here she enjoyed the company of many new friends who became like an extended family. With no more cooking or cleaning responsibilities she was able to relax and enjoy the activities that were offered such as Bingo, Cards, Music performances and meal celebrations. She was also able to enjoy family visits along with outings and always appreciated a home cooked meal.

Many would marvel at how well she looked and moved for a 96 year old woman. She was active and her wit along with an incredible memory amazed us all. Sadly a few weeks ago, her body started to fail her, and it became a reality that it was her time to leave us and pass from this world into the next.

It is hard to measure a full life on this earth. Well done our dear and sweet Eldora. May you rest in peace and enjoy the rewards that heaven has to offer.

A Celebration of Life and Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Innisfail, Alberta on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at the Drayton Valley Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband and son.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society or a charity of your choice.
