George Lloyd Mair

Apr 12, 1946 - Apr 30, 2024

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Lloyd Mair, in his 78th year, on April 30, 2024.

He is survived by his wife Jan; sons Kelly (Shelley), Kevin (Wanda); daughter Charlotte; granddaughters Ayla (Branden) and Teha (Jeff). George is also survived by his sisters Mary and Betty (Ken); brother Jim (Corrine); and sister-in-law Judy (Neil).
He was predeceased by his parents John and Sophie Mair; brother Alex; sister Margaret; brother-in-law Art; and his nephew Glen. He is also predeceased by his in-laws John and Martha Klein as well as his brother-in-law Richard.

George grew up in Swan River, Manitoba. He moved to Alberta in the early sixties. He spent his working years in construction, supervision, and oilfield construction. Years were spent in Sylvan Lake, Whitehorse Yukon until 1998, and back to Wabasca, Alberta until October 2022.
He became a Lions Member in the 1980s and enjoyed many projects over the years. Lions Youth Exchange was a favorite project. He also served as District Governor for his district in 1992-1993. Being a Lion has always been near and dear to George’s heart.

In the last few years yard work and his garden took up a lot of George’s time. Keeping the grass cut and the fence line trimmed the way he did is a hard act to follow.
George enjoyed fishing and hunting. Until the last few years he looked forward to the week of hunting with Kevin.

After suffering a stroke on October 16, 2022, George spent the last year in the Rimbey Long Term Care Facility. We are grateful to the care team at the Rimbey Long Term Care facility, and for the friends and family that visited him there.

There will be no service at George’s request. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024. For further information, please contact the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

We will love you forever George/Dad/Uncle/Grandpa.
