August 24, 1932 – August 27, 2020
Bert Konynenbelt, age 88, of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, went home to his heavenly Father on August 27, 2020 after a brief hospitalization in Red Deer. His devotion to family and his firm faith in God were foundational to his life.
Bert was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, and was raised on the family farm near Nobleford, Alberta. He was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. He met his sweetheart Evelyn Postman, also of Nobleford, whom he married in 1956. Together they established a home in Nobleford, raising three children there. He worked at Noble Cultivators implement factory, and grain farmed a half section of land. In 1986 they moved to Sylvan Lake to be closer to their children and families. He retired in 1992 after running a small local backhoe operation.
Bert was a handyman. He loved to tinker, could fix almost anything, and spent many hours in his garage workshop. Bert and Evelyn loved to go camping with their family, and eventually with their beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Once they were empty-nesters, they enjoyed travelling to the Carribean, Mexico and even Europe.
Bert is survived by his wife, Evelyn; son Rocky (Nancy, and their daughters Emmylou (Wes) Caldwell and Carly (Carl) Blazina); daughter Shelly (Art Steenbergen, and their sons Lyle (Lara), Jason, and Cole (Danielle)); and son Perry (Diane, and their daughters Sara and Larissa). He is survived by 16 great-grandchildren; Sequoia, Islay, Jonah, Teak, Olivia, Joel, Kezia, Milly, Jon, Natalia, Kaisa, Joe, Ruth, Landon, Callie and Rose. Bert is also survived by his only sister Sena Toebes and two nieces and their families.
There will be no funeral service; only a small family gathering will be held. If desired, memorial donations in Bert's honor can be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com.
