Eckenswiller, Rosa Isobel

July 23, 1922 – November 25, 2020

Rosa Isobel Eckenswiller passed away on November 25, 2020 at the Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer, AB with family by her side. She was 98.

Rose was born to John Findlay and Elizabeth Bissett on July 23, 1922 in Allanglach, Parish of Knockbain, Scotland. She came to Canada as a war bride married Harold Eckenswiller in Inverness, Scotland, to settle in Kapuskasing, Ontario. In 1951 with 4 children. They moved to Whitecourt, Alberta. In 1971 she moved to Edmonton’s Bonnie Doon neighborhood. After living in Drayton Valley, she returned to Edmonton and would later spend her retirement years in Sylvan Lake and Red Deer.

Rose worked as a chambermaid at the Riviera Hotel in South Edmonton for many years from 1971. Her hobbies were crocheting, reading many books and flower gardens.

Christmas was a special time for her as she loved the lights and decorations. A big turkey dinner was on the menu and dessert was the time for her famous alcohol infused trifle. She would also invite guests that were without their own families at Christmas.

Robbie Burns Day was always a celebration for her. Nights at the Legion was her time spent with friends. Rose also loved football and hockey, her favorite players were Jackie Parker and Wayne Gretzky.

Rose is survived by Frank and Rita, Jock and Faye, George, Lester and Linda, Joe and Stacey, 19 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews in Scotland.

She is predeceased by her husband Harold Eckenswiller, Bill Eckenswiller, Rosemary Franklin, and Charles Dion.
