Obituary

Krister Raymond Houston was born in Eckville, Alberta on March 16, 1969, to Ivan and Trudy Houston. He passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 4, 2024, at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

As a child, Krister was the typical farm kid. Krister spent his days working on the farm, building epic hay forts, and adventuring around the countryside. He rode dirt bikes, snowmobiles and horses with his siblings, many cousins and all of the neighbourhood kids. He loved school sports, and time spent with his friends. He was an avid reader and loved professional sports. Krister loved summer days on the boat, and ski holidays in the winter. He was a great friend who loved to keep in touch with friends and family from near and far.

Krister graduated from David Thompson High School in 1987. A very academic student, he pursued his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Calgary being part of the first class of Petroleum Land Management students. He worked in the finance and energy sectors.
In 2019, Krister married Raquel. His days were filled with happiness. Soon after, her children joined them, and their home was always a bustling place full of joy. Raquel’s children, Francis, Michelle, Eric, Nichole and Peter, became very important to him.

Krister is survived by his loving wife Raquel Gamboa (Michelle, Eric, Nichole, Peter), his parents Ivan and Trudy Houston, brother and sister-in-law Tyler and Juli Houston (Haley, Grace, Emma, Megan), and sister and brother-in-law Pam and Byron Burchnall (Sydney, Carson), along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Krister was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Ray Maki and Jennie Averill, his paternal grandparents James and Margaret Houston, cousins Shayne Biy, Scott Houston, Rhett DeLeeuw, and Greta Marofke, and Raquel’s son Francis.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eckville Community Centre on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 2:00pm.

Condolences

Ken and Chelsey Ackerman:

We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Krister. The Houston’s were one of our neighbours and I remember when I was ready to head to the big U of C and Krister came over to help me figure out how to use the catalog and make some decisions on what courses to take. We were also able to hang out in Calgary a few times because he was a pro at the big city living! Our deepest condolences to Ivan, Trudy, Tyler, Pam and families.
