Obituary

With broken hearts, we share that Gary lost his struggle with brain cancer on September 6, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda, son Scott and daughter Shannon. He also leaves behind a grieving extended family including five treasured grandchildren.

Gary was born in Vernon, British Columbia, but spent an idyllic childhood in Kuroki, Saskatchewan before he joined the RCAF in 1958. His first posting was Cold Lake, Alberta, and his life changed dramatically when he met Linda there in 1961. They married in 1963 and began their life together living in many corners of Canada and Germany. His ability to fix anything served him well as he rose through the ranks of the RCAF, cared for his family and built them two houses. Each place that he loved brought special memories and friendships.

After 33 years with the RCAF and another four with the Air Reserve Training School in Penhold, he retired only to become just as busy. Gary’s amazing ability to build and repair everything followed him from his military service into his retirement. Winters were spent in Yuma, Arizona and summers in Norglenwold, Alberta enjoying family, golfing and biking with Linda at his wide.

Gary’s life will be celebrated on September 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion in Sylvan Lake. Because of the tender care Gary received during his last three weeks, donations to the Red Deer Hospice Society would be greatly appreciated. It is staffed with angels.
