Obituary

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy “Dot” Louisa Dobie on December 24, 2024, in Sylvan Lake, Alberta at 81 years old.

Born in Birkenhead, United Kingdom, Dot moved to Canada in 1975. Before this move and the birth of her three children, Dot practiced nursing. Later on in life, Dot dedicated herself to her company called “Help Estate”. She had a passion for helping individuals and families in moments of transition, providing guidance on the distribution of assets and management of estates. Dot had a strong love for the communities she was a part of including Lethbridge, Waterton, and Sylvan Lake and was always willing to lend a hand to serve them in whatever way she could.

Traveling was also a love of Dot’s. Experiencing different places and the memories that came along with them was important to her along with her love of antiques. Above all, Dot’s greatest joy was her family. As a devoted grandma she adored spending time with her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Dot is survived by her children Kate (Ed), Jane (Andy), and Guy; grandchildren Eric and Owen; brother Bob (Jackie); nieces Jenn and Alison; her partner Richard “Ricky” Lucy; and stepson Alisdair.

She is predeceased by her parents Mary Agnes and Sidney.

A Celebration of Dot’s life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1:00PM at the Sylvan Lake Funeral Home Chapel in Sylvan Lake, Alberta with light refreshments to follow.

In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Dot can be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

I was fortunate enough to be friends with Guy and shortly there after Dot. She was hospitable to our group of friends, the door was always open and you always felt welcome. Her well stocked fridge was frequently ransacked but us as teenagers and she welcomed us. She was warm, friendly and funny. Much love for Dot and my memories of her.

Wesley Olivier:

It was heartbreaking to hear about the sudden passing of Dot. I know now that it’s Dorthy; I only knew her as Dot. She was such a kind and loving person, and her warmth touched everyone around her.

Dot had a special gift for baking that brought joy to so many. I can still picture her creating those delicious tarts that not only delighted the taste buds but also created lasting memories for her family and friends. Her amazing culinary talents were only surpassed by her love for her grandkids, whom she adored fiercely. That’s an understatement. The grandkids and Dot could not get enough of each other. The bond they shared was a testament to the wonderful mother and grandmother she was. It was something extraordinarily special I hope everyone in life gets to experience.

As a mother and mother-in-law to my baby brother, Dot expressed unconditional love and support. I know how much her family cherished her wisdom and guidance. Her friendship was a true blessing, and she had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special and valued. Dot will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the countless lives she touched.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

With deepest sympathy,

Wesley Olivier

Tom & Nancy Mackie :

Tom and I are still in disbelief on the passing of Dot. She was a wonderful neighbour, friend and confidant. We spent many hours sharing stories of things going on in our lives. I loved listening to Dot’s interesting stories (as only Dot could tell them) about her childhood in England and the funny stories she would share of things that happened during her nursing days when she was young and single.
She was kind and caring and everyone who knew her loved being with her. Dot loved her grandson’s Eric and Owen unconditionally and they loved her just as much. Our deepest sympathies to all of Dot’s family. We will miss Dot’s friendly smile, and her sense of humour, but most of all we will miss her. Rest in Peace my dear friend. I pray I will see you again.

Don & Lydia Lanterman :
