Gertrude "Trudy" Ann Smith

Oct 5, 1956 - May 11, 2024

Obituary

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Gertrude “Trudy” Smith announce her passing
surrounded by love on May 11, 2024 in the Red Deer Hospice at 67 years old.

Trudy was born on October 5, 1956 in Ontario. She spent 46 incredible years married to the love of her life, Redge Smith. Together, they had two children Bailey and Ryan. Many years were spent in Arnprior, Ontario where she was a nurse. Her compassion, care, and love went into every person she met. Trudy had a true gift with people and was always thinking of others. After many years in the Arnprior, Ontario area, Trudy then moved to Alberta to continue her life in the West. Just like in Ontario, she found strong friendships, made memories, and was everyone’s biggest fans. In her later years, Trudy became a cherished Nana to five grandchildren. These grandchildren quickly became her everything. She was always the one with a camera in hand to capture the moments. Her infectious smile will always be remembered by everyone she touched.

Trudy leaves to mourn her loving husband Redge; children Bailey (Jason) Prestwich and Ryan
(Karen) Smith; sisters Aggie (Rob) and Gwen (Don); grandchildren Hunter, Isabelle, Nathan,
Madison, and Alyssa; as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

She is predeceased by her sister Cheryl Sunter (Tom) and her parents Charles and Avis Owens.

“There is a time for every season under heaven”. Now is the time for Trudy to rest, knowing the battle was fought with courage.

In memory of Trudy, donations can be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Reggie, Bailey and family, Ryan and family, and the Owen’s family.
I was so saddened to hear of Trudy’s passing and can only imagine the devastating loss each of you feel. She was unique. A caring, compassionate nurse who brought sunshine and humour to those whose lives she touched. A creative and joyful soul who lived life to the fullest and by association dragged everyone else along with her. Her radiant smile will no longer light up the room or warm those within its radius but the memories and impact she made while here will forever remain. R.I.P. Trudy. You have earned your reward and those in heaven will love your giggle.
Sincerely,
Karen

Micheline Henry:

Trudy and I worked together for my early years as a nurse in Arnprior. She was always laughing, and putting ladies hair up in curlers. She was superstitious and was always counting crows. She was always happy when she saw more than one. I was sad when she left and moved out West, as she taught me a lot about being a nurse. Now I am sad that she has passed. We had a lot of fun back then. Condolences to her family.

Jim and Beth Lepack:
