Obituary

In Memory of Sheila Maye Verhage (nee Tripp)

Sheila Maye Verhage (nee Tripp) passed away in Red Deer Hospice on November 20, 2024, surrounded by family.

Shelia was born to Lucille Munro in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on July 23, 1949, and adopted and raised by Donelda (nee Munro) and Lawrence Tripp in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.

Sheila is survived by Adoptive Mother: Donelda Tripp, Brothers: Ken Tripp, Doug Peters (Ann Louise), and Sisters: Donna Mae Samoluk (Ken), Donna-Lynn Simonson, Barbara Polley (Bob), Betty-Ann Tripp, Brenda Long (Richard), and Jeanette Moir, Son: Michael Curtis (Paulette), and Daughter: Lori Curtis. Grandchildren: Shaun Curtis, Robyn Curtis, Dylan Morrow-Schill, and Caelan Schill. Numerous nieces, nephews, and stepchildren.

She is predeceased by her Adoptive Father; Lawrence Tripp, Husbands; Jerry Krawchuk, and Dirk Verhage, as well as Brother-in-law; Mark Simonson.

She has left behind a legacy of dedication to community support through years of work as a public servant, and many teachings on the importance of family. Touching the hearts of many through her help with events and programs such as Hockeyville Sylvan Lake, Equestrian therapy for those with special needs, and the Canadian Cadet Program.
She is remembered fondly for her love for wrestling, Johnny Reid, never-ending campfires, and her baking which could cause good-natured disputes among family and friends.

After years of providing love and support to those near and dear to her and fighting a two-year battle with cancer, Shelia was welcomed home with her slippers waiting for her at the door.

A special thanks from Sheila’s family and friends to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Unit 32 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital and Red Deer Hospice. Thank you for your dedication, kindness, and patience in caring for Sheila during her final days.

At Sheila’s request, there will not be a service. We will be having an emotional support gathering with family & friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society or a charity of your choice.
