Ron was born in Lanark County, Ontario on May 8, 1937, and passed away on December 1, 2017 in the Sylvan Lake Bethany after an eight-year courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Ron hitchhiked to Red Deer, AB from Ontario at the age of 15 to be with his two brothers, Arnold & Vern. There, he met the love of his life, Carol, and they married December 29, 1962. They moved to Calgary and went on the have four children. Ron started his successful dry-cleaning business ‘Hi Neighbour Cleaners’ in 1968. He was a hardworking business man and a very dedicated, loving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather. He had 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Ron is survived by a very loving family: his loving wife of 54 years, Carol; his four children, Debbie (Rick), Laura-Lee (Michael), Ron Jr. (Sandra) and Rhonda (Todd); nine grandchildren, Randi, Kelli, Karissa, Lee, Aaron, Nicole, Waverly, Emily and Callum; and his precious great-grandchild, Robyn. Ron is also survived by his siblings: Arnold, Vern (Gail), Rhoda (his twin sister), Beverly, Marlene, Joyce, Joanna (Harold), and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his sister Marguerite in 2003. The family would like to thank the Sylvan Lake Bethany for their care of Ron over the last three years, and would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers during his palliative care. A special thank-you to his family doctor of 21 years, Dr. Myburg.

Dear Mrs. Machan and Family,

My deepest sympathy to all of you. I haven’t seen you in many years, but want you to know that some of my fondest childhood memories are of times spent in your home. When I think of Mr. Machan, I remember him smiling - a very handsome, loving man, with a gentle spirit. I’m so sorry that he has left you too soon.

Praying that you can find some peace at this very difficult time,

Love Laurie

Rob/Daisy:

Our deepest sympathy to you all. I know we never got to see you muchin the last years , but i will always have a strong memory of uncle Ron .i remember being out there in the summers and uncle Ron would drive us up to Sylvan always in the left lane ( the passing lane ) which we should not have been in. Lol. I think i learnt a few cuss words from the other drivers.
I will miss Uncle Ron and will continue to think of him and the rest of you as well.
With a sad heart
