Obituary

Skidmore, Clifford
November 28, 1939 – July 19, 2019
In the arms of his family, Clifford Barry Skidmore (Skid) went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2019 after a battle with cancer.
Cliff was born November 28, 1939 in Medicine Hat, AB to Margaret and James Skidmore. He was the middle child between Harold and Stan. Cliff grew up in the Redcliff area where he met and married his first wife Carole in 1959. They raised four children. Cliff met and married Betty in 1994; they remained loving and committed partners until Cliff’s passing.
Cliff started his career in 1961 with the Alberta Government, which took him to numerous cities in Alberta such as Medicine Hat, Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton. Cliff was a longstanding employee working for the Motor Vehicle Division for a remarkable 51 years in front line, administration and supervisory roles. After retiring, he moved to Sylvan Lake where he worked for another 3 years in the private sector as a driver examiner. Cliff was known by his colleagues for his dedication, commitment, wealth of experience, love for people and sense of humor.
Cliff loved life to the fullest. His favorite pastime was playing pool with all of his buddies for hours on end. He was passionate about sports especially hockey and baseball. Anyone who knew Cliff, knew he was an unwavering Toronto Maple Leafs fan and New York Yankees fan. Cliff had a love for all kinds of music, dancing, and jokes. He could often be heard whistling a tune, singing a song or laughing at his own corny jokes. Cliff loved to entertain those around him and was always the sunshine in every room with his zest for life.
Cliff is survived by his loving wife, Betty; brother, Harold (Mary) and his children, Nelda, Kenny (Donna), and Gordon; along with his step children, Patrick (Karen), Danielle, and Dawn (Curtis). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his son Stuart, his brother Stan, and his parents, James and Margaret.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Penner, Red Deer Paramedics, Sylvan Lake Home Care, and Red Deer Hospice for their care and compassion. I would like to extend a special thanks to family and friends who helped me in this extremely difficult time. Cliff and I couldn’t have managed without you.
A memorial service for Cliff will be held at Sylvan Lake Funeral Home, 5019-47A Ave, Sylvan Lake on August 6, 2019 at 1:30 PM. Following the service, a lunch will take place at the Sylvan Lake Legion. Memorial donations in Cliff’s name can be made to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Ave. Red Deer, AB.
In honor of Cliff’s passion and love for sports feel free to wear any sports jersey of your choice or casual clothing to his memorial service.
