Obituary

Jean Mary Yellowlees

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother on January 24, 2018 at the age of 89. The last year mum was battling with severe stenosis in the Aorta causing heart failure and Copd. Jean was born June 17, 1928 to Frederick & Mabel Ebeling. She attended boarding school in England with her elder sister Audrey and adored younger brother, David. After Jean finished school she went into nursing and from there travelled around the world for a few years as an air stewardess. Mum met the love of her life, Robin Yellowlees from Vancouver, B.C. in England and they married back in Vancouver on August 14, 1957. David their son was born May 5, 1958 and when David was 2 they moved back to England where their daughter, Jennifer was born on January 3, 1961. Ten years went by and dad felt the need to move back to the Okanagan. From 1970 to 2011, Robin and Jean lived in Kelowna, B.C. and in 2011 moved to Sylvan Lake to live with Jennifer and her husband Wayne. Jean had an extensive health and medical knowledge although she did not always apply it to herself as she was a smoker her whole life. She loved antiques and shopping for special treasures at antique sales or flea markets. Mum had a great sense of humor. She was a great hostess always cooking a fabulous dinner and making delicious goodies for special evenings with friends and family. She made everyone feel very special. Jean loved gardening and mowing the lawn for exercise when they lived in Kelowna. She loved watching true crime stories and reading Agatha Christie books. She was the most wonderful mother and wife that we could have hoped for. The move to Sylvan Lake in 2011 was due to Robin having dementia and Mum needed help. Robin passed away in 2012. We are grateful that mum & dad stayed with us for their final years. Jean leaves behind her son, David Yellowlees (Vancouver), daughter Jennifer Saastad (Wayne), granddaughter Sondra Saastad with great-grandson, Maddox, grandson, Jeremy Saastad, and Timothy Saastad all of Sylvan Lake, Alberta as well as one brother, David VanEbeling and his family in Great Britain. Jean had many friends in Kelowna. In keeping with Mums wishes, no funeral will occur and instead a special gathering will be planned at a later date to join Mum & Dad’s ashes in a special place. We miss you Mum.

Condolences

Billy C.:

So sorry to hear of this passing. She had an unquenchable appetite for life...
They were such a sweet couple. Respectful, funny, and caring, and with a great sense of British decorum.

They will both be sadly missed.

I lived with them for a short spell in the early 70's, in Kelowna. I will always remembe Robin's eyes lighting up with any interest in his Morris or other British cars, and Jean was always so upbeat and cheery....

Jan and Bill Hade:

Hi,
I just read the obituary for Jean and we are sad to hear the news. We knew Robin and Jean very well in Kelowna where my mother, Muriel Westwood, lived. Even though we live abroad, we always visited Robin and Jean and loved them dearly. Bill and Robin had a love for old cars! Jean would cook amazing food when we visited. Mum passed away just before Robin in 2012

Good memories and we miss them!com
